The Barn Swallow Entangled in a Bird Net
When Jia-jia was little, she lived in a tiny nest with her siblings under the overhang of a storefront, watching pedestrians and cars pass by. After she fully-fledged, she flew several times with her parents, usually to the nearby park or elementary school. In August, it was her first time to fly long distance with the flock. She didn’t see the net that was discarded by humans and became entangled in its twines. As she watched her mates fly away she was left to sob sadly all alone.
