The Chemical Corps is part of the combat support branch of the armed forces. During peacetime, it works with central and local authorities on homeland defense, counter-terrorism, disaster relief, disease prevention, contamination control, and promoting environmental protection. In times of conflict, it is tasked with biochemical reconnaissance, detection, decontamination, and examination. It also creates smokescreens, sets fires, assists with nuclear, biological, and chemical defense, and provides technical expertise. Mission-wise, the corps is divided into the detection and decon unit and the smokescreen unit. Besides providing basic protective gear, the detection and decon unit supplies equipment for prevention, detection, and decontamination. Its tasks include large-scale detection and decon operations in tertiary administrative regions and defending other troops against nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare harm. The smokescreen unit provides smoke systems and turbine smoke generators. It is capable of interfering with adversary forces’ aerial and surface observations, geological landform detections, and weapons system capabilities in addition to concealing critical military facilities.
