Abstract
This report introduces the efforts and achievements of the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation
(TRTC) in Sustainable Development Indicators, including economic performance, environmental
protection, product liability, social participation, labor care and human rights. The summary is as fol-
lows.
Advancements in Operations and Management
The TRTC’s total revenue in 2014 was NT$17.493 billion, and net profit after tax was NT$709 mil-
lion, with a net profit rate of 4.21% and earnings per share at NT$0.76. While the TRTC is a public
operating agency, it has to be financially autonomous and self-financing. In 2014, Tamsui-Xinyi,
Songshan-Xindian, Zhonghe-Xinlu and Bannan Lines shared a Punctuality Rate of 99.83% while
that of Wenhu Line reached 99.73%. Compared to 2013, the total number of stations and op-
erating mileage increased by 7 stations and 7.9 kilometers respectively, while both the annual
ridership and average daily ridership increased by 7% in 2014.
Transport Safety
The necessity for a multiplicity of disaster drills is stipulated in the Taipei City Disaster Prevention
and Response Plan, as well as the TRTC’s Disaster Prevention and Response Operation Plan. The
TRTC is required to organize no less than 13 drills annually, and in 2014, it indeed organized a to-
tal of 33. The bomb squad of the National Police Agency, the environmental incidents specialist
team of the Environmental Protection Administration, and local fire, police and health authori-
ties jointly implemented drills for explosives, toxic gas leaks, criminal attacks and various other
security incidents to improve responsiveness and tacit cooperation to fulfill our commitment to
passenger safety.
Sustainable Green Transport
The TRTC endeavors to evolve into a sustainable“green business”. Environmental issues are
therefore of central concern in our business operation and management. We hope to play an
active role in energy and climate change issues, and in improving energy efficiency. In 2014, en-
ergy intensity ratio was reduced by 1.9% compared to the previous year, while water consump-
tion was also reduced by 2.43% compared to 2013. As of the end of 2014, the Beitou Depot has
generated 168,644 kilowatt-hours of electricity since the installation of solar power equipment
on its roof, reducing CO2 emissions by 89,030 kg. In 2013, the Taipei Arena introduced energy
management systems, and in December it received an ISO 50001 Energy Management Sys-
tems Certification by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection, making it Taiwan’s first
sporting arena to receive such certification.
Prospering with Local Communities
